Working Group Leader
Objectives
- To disseminate methods for the integration of solar thermal applications in energy supply installations in existing and planned buildings, including passive solar functions
- To present instruments to develop energy concepts for complex buildings
- To elaborate case studies for the supply of complex buildings with solar thermal energy
- To elaborate guidelines for planning and dimensioning of solar thermal systems under the conditions of the Mediterranean partner countries
Activities
The Working Group “Energy Concepts” concentrates on the integration of solar thermal applications in new or existing complex buildings. A seminar will be held to inform the project partners on current trends in this field including:
- Solar optimised building
- Development of energy concepts for complex buildings (Assessment of energy demand, energy costs, investment costs, selection of appropriate solar collector and storage system, combination with conventional energy sources etc.)
- Computer modelling of energy concepts
- Planning and dimensioning of solar thermal systems for buildings
Case studies for specific buildings
A EU partner institution and a partner institution from the Mediterranean partner countries elaborate case studies for selected buildings in Barcelona and in one Mediterranean partner country which will be equipped with solar thermal energy supply systems.

Guidelines for the planning and dimensioning of solar thermal systems
In order to develop guidelines for the planning and dimensioning of solar thermal systems existing guidelines from the EU partners and the practical know-how of the two partners, who elaborated energy concepts, serve as a basis for the adaptation of the guidelines to the specific needs of the Mediterranean partner countries.
Results
- Case studies on solar thermal energy supply for two or more buildings in the EU and the Mediterranean partner countries:
